The new Asus A696 runs Windows Mobile 6.0, has a quick 416 Mhz processor, a 3.5" anti-glare screen (65,000 colours and 240x320 resolution), 256Mb Rom, 64Mb Ram, 1200 mAh removeable battery, SiRF Start III Chipset GPS, SD card slot, WiFi & Bluetooth and yet weighs only 165g! (11.7 x 7.08 x 1.57cm (L x W x H)

We really like this new unit. It has a stainless steel case; it is solid and hardwearing making it a perfect companion for Pocket Anquet. And this unit also has a user replaceable battery. Just slide open the battery compartment, take out the battery and pop in a new one, allowing for longer walking trips.

It comes with car holder, car charger, USB sync cable, AC Adaptor (UK), stylus*2, protection case, quick start guide, and associated software.

Difference between a Mio and the Glofiish?

The Glofiish is actually a phone (although it can be used without the SIM), has a digital camera built in, and it has WiFi & 3G HSPDA communications (great for downloading mapping). The slight downside, is that it uses MicroSDHC cards, which currently max out at 4GB, but almost certainly 8GB are in the pipeline, whilst the Mios using SDHC for which 8GB cards are already available. The Glofiish uses mini-USB, and so is compatible with the extended batteries which we stock.

Approximate memory needs for different products:\n200MB - 1:25,000 scale national Parks product.\n320MB - 1:50,000 scale regional product\n1.5GB - 1:50,000 scale half country product\n3GB - 1:50,000 scale full country product\n\nYou do not need to download all of the mapping.\n\nAn example would be that with a 2GB card, you could install say GB North at 1:50,000 scale and the Lake District National Park product at 1:25,000 scale.
